Communities and wellbeing will be the focus of Libraries Week which runs from 8 to 13 October.
Libraries across the country will showcase how they bring people together, combat loneliness, provide a space for reading and creativity and support people with their mental health.
There are a number of events in Bury:
Children’s Rhyme and Story Times – at Prestwich Library and Radcliffe Library (Tues 9 October, 10.30am–11am); Ramsbottom Library (Wed 10 Oct, 10.30am–11am); Prestwich Library (Fri 12 Oct, 10.30am–11.30am); and Bury Library (Sat 13 Oct, 10.30am–noon)Shared Reading and The Rhythm of Rhyme – reading poetry and prose from ‘A Little Aloud’ celebrating National Poetry Day and Libraries Week. Meet new friends, share the reading and tea and cake! At Prestwich Library (Tues 9 Oct, 1.30pm-2.30pm) and Bury Library (Thurs 11 Oct, 6pm–6.45pm) Crafternoon Delights! – for adults, this encourages you to try a variety of crafts, watch demonstrations and learn something new. At Ramsbottom Library (Wed 10 Oct, 1.30pm–3.30pm) and Prestwich Library (Fri 12 Oct, 1.30pm–3.30pm)Green Screen Session - Be the Star of Your Own Story! – This is a free two-hour, fun and creative hands-on green screen workshop, delivered by MakoCreate. At Ramsbottom Library (Wed 10 Oct, 4pm–6pm). For children aged 8 and above.Tea Time Tales (Adult Friendship Group) – a free informal group, meeting to read short stories, articles from newspapers and magazines over a cup of tea and a cake. At Prestwich Library (Thurs 11 Oct, 1.30pm–3pm)Low Vision Drop-in Day – Explore the latest products, technologies and support services for blind and partially sighted people, including Bury Libraries’ downloadable e-audiobook service. The council's I Will If You Will Team and Sport and Physical Activity Service (SAPAS) will have a display at Bury Library throughout the week with information on activities and facilities designed to boost mental health. These include:
