Free open days to see how your bin waste is recycled

Ever wondered what happens to your recycling and waste after it’s been collected?

Now’s your chance to go behind the scenes, with a series of free open days and tours which will enlighten and entertain all the family.

The tours are organised and run by Recycle for Greater Manchester and the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority. 

Visit opportunities and times:

· Pilsworth Landfill Site (Pilsworth, Bury): See where non-recyclable waste is buried and landfill gas is collected to create energy. Dates: Thursday 11 September (10am to 12.30pm, and 2-4.30pm).

· Bolton Thermal Recovery Facility (Raikes Lane, Bolton): See where non-recyclable waste is burned to create energy. Dates: Friday 12 September (10am to noon, and 2-4pm).

· Longley Lane Materials Recovery Facility (Sharston, Manchester): Where your mixed
recycling is sorted and separated. Dates: Tuesday 9 September (2-4pm and 6-8pm), and Monday 17 November (10am to noon,
and 2-4pm).

· Bredbury Mechanical Biological Treatment Facility (Bredbury, Stockport): See where your
non-recyclable waste is sorted and used to create energy, and where your garden and food waste is turned into compost. Dates: Wednesday 10 September (10am to noon, and 2-4pm), and Thursday 19 February 2015 (2-4pm and 6-8pm).

Please note: these events are open to anyone aged 7 and above. Under-18s must be accompanied by an adult.
