Golfers back Mayor of Bury’s charity tournament

Kind-hearted golfers made it an above-par day for local charities chosen by the Mayor of Bury, Councillor Mike Connolly.

They raised £1,500 for the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity, Annabelle’s Challenge and Bury Alzheimer’s Society at the 28th annual tournament, which was held at Stand Golf Club in Whitefield.

Some 36 players took part, comprising staff from Bury Council and its business partners and suppliers. Prizes were awarded by the mayor and his consort Ian Hargreaves, and donations were raffled to help boost the total.

Cllr Connolly said: “We were very pleased to attend the golf competition and would like to thank everyone concerned for the very warm welcome and lovely meal we received. It was an excellent event which we really enjoyed and were glad to see it was so well-supported.”

The following companies kindly sponsored the event: Bury Leisure, The Bury Black Pudding Company, Cardea Solutions, Chatley’s, Delicious at the Fusiliers, Groundwork Limited, Gateway to Gardens, JW Lees, Oodles Soft Play, P J Carney Limited, Millie’s Cookies, Morrison’s Whitefield, Tina’s Tea Rooms, I Will If You Will, The Body Shop Bury, Total Fitness Whitefield, Orange Tree Prestwich, Loofe’s Clothing, and David Watt’s family.
