Man v Sausage – are you up for it?

Bury Market is to hold a festive competition with a difference – to see who can win a bratwurst eating contest.

The Man v Sausage competition will be held on Saturday 15 December, and hungry challengers are needed to step forward now.

Long-standing trader George Katsouris will be hosting the tournament at his Katsouris Delicatessen in Bury Market Hall. Five competitors, chosen at random, will be served a 2ft bratwurst on a bun. The winner will be the first to finish the lot, or, if no one succeeds, the one who eats most.

The winner will receive a £50 hamper from Andrew’s Delicatessen, supplier of continental sausages to Katsouris, and their name will appear as the first entry on the Man v Sausage plaque to be displayed in Katsouris deli. There will also be prizes for the runners-up.

In addition, George will donate £150 to the Mayor of Bury’s Charity Appeal.

To stand a chance of being a competitor, call George on 0161 764 4382 or email katsouris@btconnect.com and leave your details. Five people will be drawn at random on 11 December and informed that they will be taking part.

Andrew Heyes, markets manager, said: “With Christmas coming, what better time to enjoy a Christmas market-style bratwurst and have some festive fun? Let’s hope lots of people enter the race to become a competitor, or come down and watch the winners take part. And the mayor’s charities will be better off too – everyone’s a winner!”
