Mayor puts funny face forward for Red Nose Day

Mayors across England have been making their faces funny to show their support for Red Nose Day 2015.

On Friday 13th March, this year’s fundraising extravaganza will see people across the country being asked to make their faces funny for money. The cash raised by fundraisers wearing comedy glasses or silly wigs will be spent by Comic Relief to transform lives here in the North West, the rest of the UK and across Africa.

Throughout the country mayors have joined in the fun, rocking Red Noses and donning disguises to show their support. In Bury, the Mayor showed her support for Red Nose Day by channelling her inner rock star. Wearing retro blue rock and roll frames, a show-stopping black wig and of course, a Red Nose; Councillor Michelle Wiseman pledged her support for Red Nose Day.

Councillor Wiseman said: “People should support Red Nose Day because it is all about care from the community, for the community. Bury’s charities and voluntary sector help make our borough what it is and I love being mayor of a borough that does so much to care for its people.”

The generous people of the North West raised and donated more than £2,938,000 for Red Nose Day 2013. Since the last Red Nose Day, money raised has funded more than 450 projects right here in the region.

Bury project Streetwise 2000 is one project that has benefitted from Comic Relief funding. This project provides mental health support for 16-24 year olds in Bury, whose needs are not being met by other services. The project supports young people to overcome the immediate challenges they face, make progress in their lives educationally and develop their ability to deal with future adversity.

Local fundraisers can find loads of ideas to get involved at rednoseday.com.
