More ‘leaves’ needed for woollen Christmas Tree!

Groundwork Bury is appealing to nifty knitters to help them complete their giant woollen Christmas tree which will go on display in the Mill Gate shopping centre on 28 November.

More than a hundred people have so far contributed 1,200 six-by-six-inch leaves which will adorn a three-metre frame provided and erected by the Groundwork Prince’s Trust as part of their team challenge. Many of the knitters are involved with Streets of Community Spirit (SOCS), a Lottery-funded project operated by Groundwork in eight streets of Bury.

Leaf donations can be made at the Mill Gate information desk, so if you have an hour or two and some spare wool at home, donations of any colour and style are welcomed, as long as they are six inches square.

If you fancy some company, Groundwork is holding two ‘knit and chat’ sessions outside Jessops in the Mill Gate on Tuesday 13 November and Monday 19 November from 11am to 2pm.
