Press release -

Play your part in improving your town

Ambitious plans to bring together communities and improve each part of Bury have now been agreed.

All six of the borough’s Township Forums have now agreed a 'Township Plan', which set local priorities for each area and give local people a chance to play a key role in achieving results.

Among the many projects included in the plans are: work to tackle alcohol related anti-social behaviour, initiatives to promote fitness/exercise opportunities and improve the health and well-being of local residents, work to promote employment opportunities for young people, and to create positive activities for young people.

Township forums comprise councillors from the area and community representatives. They are public meetings held up to six times a year at local venues where people are encouraged to take part.

The Plans can be viewed on the Township Forum web pages at http://www.bury.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1763 where you can also find details for the next round of township forums.

Councillor Sandra Walmsley, cabinet member for community development, said: “These Plans have been drawn up with local people in mind, who are best placed to decide what matters in their area and the best ways to go about improving it. They are a real opportunity for residents to get involved and shape their local area. Why not come along to the next Township Forum meeting near you and have your say?”

The next round of Township Forum meetings are:

* Radcliffe: Thursday 8 November, 6pm, at Radcliffe Civic Suite

* Prestwich: Wednesday 14 November, 6.30pm, Longfield Suite
