Recycling awareness road show hits the streets

Bury Council’s recycling and awareness team are running a series of road shows in June to help residents get to grips with what goes in which bin and to highlight why it’s so important to recycle food waste.

The team will be giving out free kitchen caddies, compostable liners and bin stickers as well as taking orders for free recycling bins and handing out useful information leaflets.

The recycling road shows start on 13 June and end on Friday 17 June at the following venues:

  • Monday 13 June, Unsworth Library from 11am to 1pm;
  • Tuesday 14 and Thursday 16 June, Tesco at Woodfields Retail Park, Bury from 9am to 2pm;
  • Wednesday 15 June, Bury Town Hall, Knowsley Street from 10am to noon.
  • Friday 17 June, Castle Leisure Centre, Bolton Street, Bury from 11am to 1pm.

Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, said: “This is a great opportunity for residents to come along and meet the recycling team face-to-face and get answers to any questions they may have.

“We’re particularly keen to help residents that haven’t yet got to grips with recycling their food waste, whatever the reason may be. If this is you, please come along and the team will sort you out with everything you need.

“Recycling food waste not only saves money, it helps the environment, saves space in the grey bin and it’s really easy to do. It only costs £61 per tonne to turn food and garden waste into compost, but it costs £350 per tonne to treat and dispose of waste that is put in grey bins. So please don’t forget, grey bins aren’t for food waste – brown bins are!”
