​Standing together – funding available for community projects to keep people safe

Applications are being invited from local groups for the Bury Standing Together Community Grant Fund, which is awarding grants of up to £5,000 to successful applicants.

Applications will need to demonstrate how their proposal makes a contribution towards keeping people safe, reducing harm and offending, and strengthening communities and places across Bury. These priorities reflect our most pressing community safety issues and are underpinned by a commitment to safeguard the most vulnerable people in society.

The chair of Bury’s Community Safety Partnership, Chief Superintendent Stuart Ellison, said: “Bury prides itself on having vibrant, cohesive communities. The spirit of partnership working and co-operation here really stands out and enables us to solve problems collectively. Our community partners do an incredible job and we hope that this fund will give them the tools to drive their work further.”

Funding has been provided by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) for 2018/19 to encourage voluntary, not for profit and charitable groups to develop and deliver projects that support local and regional priorities.

Councillor Tamoor Tariq, Bury Council’s cabinet member for communities and safer neighbourhoods, said: “Only by working together with local partners and harnessing their skills, knowledge and passion can we hope to make a Bury a safer place to live. Hopefully this fund will enable community groups to both continue their good work and also develop new and innovative solutions to existing problems.”

Applications will be considered by a panel and decisions will be made on the proposed projects against set criteria, and must be submitted by a registered charity, a constituted voluntary, a community sector or not-for profit organisation
