Take part in Bury Local Democracy Week

A range of events is taking place in Local Democracy Week (14-18 October) to encourage young people and others to get involved in local decision-making.

Younger children from Bury schools have been invited to meet the Mayor, have a tour of the town hall and take part in a mock election.

A series of talks to local residents and school children on local democracy is being arranged.

The meeting of the full council on Wednesday 16 October will be streamed live, to give everyone the opportunity to see all the action as it happens. Tune in at http://digitaltreeuk.com/burycouncil/

A Public Question Time event will take place on Saturday 2 November at The Met (noon to 1pm), where residents will be able to put questions to a panel including Bury councillors Mike Connolly, Iain Gartside and Donal O’Hanlon.

Mr Kelly said: “Local Democracy Week will give people an insight into how Bury Council works, and we hope this will encourage more people to get involved in the decisions that affect them.”

Further information on these and other events can be viewed on Facebook (www.facebook.com/burylocaldemoctracyweek) and Twitter (@burydemocracy)

For more information, and for a ticket for the Question Time event on 2 November, call the elections office on 0161 253 6018 or email electionservices@bury.gov.uk
