The election has been called – be sure to have your say!

Residents are being urged to make sure they are registered to vote in the Bury Council elections on 5 May.

The Notice of Election has now been published, and anyone who wishes to stand for election has until 4pm on Thursday 7 April to get their nomination papers to the Returning Officer. The list of all the candidates will be available the following day.

One councillor will be elected in each of the 17 wards in Bury, i.e. one third of the 51 council seats will be contested.

People have until 18 April to register to vote if they haven’t already done so. The quickest and easiest way to do this is by going online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. Voters will need their National Insurance number when they register. Paper applications can also be posted by calling 0161 253 5252 or by emailing electionservices@bury.gov.uk.

Ways to Vote

In person at a polling station:

Poll cards have been sent to all those who are currently on the electoral register. If you have not received a poll card, please contact 0161 253 5252 or email electionservices@bury.gov.uk. Polling stations are open on Thursday 5 May from 7am to 10pm.

Voting by post:

Residents who are registered for a postal vote will have received a postal poll card. Postal ballot packs will be delivered to electors on or around 22 April. To vote by post, residents need to complete an application and return it by 5pm on Tuesday 19 April.

Voting by proxy:

Proxy voting means that another person can vote on your behalf. To have a proxy vote, forms must be completed and returned by 5pm on Tuesday April 26.
