Three Cheers for Radcliffe-born Donald Jack!

A Radcliffe resident’s search for a local author through Bury Library Service led to a treasure trove of information in Canada.

Gordon Hale visited Bury Libraries Archive and Local History Search Room back in February looking for details about Radcliffe writer Donald Jack. Little did he know that the archive service’s hunt for this obscure author would end up at Calgary University in Canada.

Donald Jack’s first novel “Three Cheers for Me” was first published in 1963 and an article appeared in the Radcliffe Times on June 14, 1963 showingreal pridefor a local boy whose writing style has been compared with P. G. Wodehouse and Kingsley Amis.

Donald went on to write several more books which can be viewed in a display at Bury Libraries Archives & Local History service.

For more information about the service, call 0161 253 6782 or visit our blog page https://buryculture.wordpress.com/2016/08/13/three-cheers-for-radcliffe-born-donald-jack/
