‘Tis the season to recycle...need a kitchen caddy or compostable liners?

Bury residents in need of a new or replacement kitchen caddy or a roll of compostable liners can now collect these for free from venues across the borough.

Locations include all libraries, the reception points at Bury Town Hall, 3 Knowsley Place and Six Town Housing at 6 Knowsley Place as well as Customer Support and Collections at Whittaker Street in Radcliffe.

Councillor Susan Southworth, deputy cabinet member (sustainable borough), said: “We want to make food waste recycling as convenient as we can for everyone because it’s really important to keep this type of waste out of grey bins, particularly at this time of year when most people have extra food waste. The grey bins are only for waste that can’t be recycled. Any cooked or uncooked food waste should always go in the brown bin which is emptied once every two weeks.

“We provide a kitchen caddy and compostable liners free of charge to help make food waste recycling cleaner and easier. We’re making them available at places in the community to provide a different way of getting a new roll of liners and also to encourage anyone that doesn’t already recycle their food waste to give it a go. With the festive season just around the corner it’s a great time to start.

“In fact, if every household across the borough recycles just one extra caddy full of food waste this December, it will keep around 140 tonnes of waste out of grey bins and save more than £31,000.”

Residents are reminded that in their kitchen caddy and brown recycling bin they can recycle any cooked or uncooked food waste, including leftovers straight from plates. Only the compostable liners provided should be used, or food waste can be placed loose inside the brown bin. Plastic bags must not be used in any of the recycling bins.
