Tune in live for the local election results

Bury Council is taking another pioneering step in bringing democracy closer to the people by live streaming the local election results.

Residents can tune in at lunchtime on Friday 23 May to see the votes being counted in all of Bury’s 17 wards at the Castle Leisure Centre.

The council and European elections take place the previous day (Thursday 22 May), although the Euro poll will not be announced until Sunday 25 May.

The live broadcast is being carried out by Bury company Digital Tree UK, which has been streaming meetings of the council since December 2012.

Mike Kelly, the council’s chief executive and local returning officer for the elections in Bury, said: “Once more, we’re delighted to be at the forefront of bringing democracy closer to our community, and with the help of a local company too.

“In today’s fast-moving world of instant news, many people will want to know the election results as soon as possible. What better way of finding out by tuning in live and watching the scores as they come in?”

John Coles, CEO of Digital Tree UK, said: “Digital Tree Media is proud to be working with the Bury Council once again to bring the workings of the council to a wider audience. The live stream allows those who cannot attend the event access to the election results live over the Internet, and we're honoured to provide that service."
