Press release -

Voters reassured their electoral details are correct

Voters across Bury are being reassured that their details on the council’s electoral register are correct.

Around 10,000 residents who opted out of the Open Register have recently received a letter saying that they are on the Open Register.

However, this is an error by the external company which printed the forms. Affected residents are now being sent a second letter - at the printer’s expense - assuring them that they are not on the Open Register, which is publicly available.

  • Around 145,000 voters in Bury are being contacted as part of the biggest change to electoral registration in more than 100 years.

This requires individuals to register, rather than the traditional ‘head of the family’ registering all adults in the house.

Bury Council estimates that the details for 120,000 people will be correct, and they do not need to take any action. The remainder will need to provide further information to ensure that their details are correct.

For all information about online registration, or to amend your details, go to https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
