Press release -

Win prizes in the Bury Libraries monthly quiz

Library members can win a £10 book token in a new monthly quiz being held across the borough.

The latest quiz closes at noon on Friday 19 June and the winner of the book token will be notified by email.

What’s more, Bury libraries are making it easier for people to get the right answers. The libraries subscribe to several excellent online resources, from the Encyclopaedia Britannica to the Oxford English Dictionary. All these online resources can be accessed in all libraries and many can also be accessed from home for residents with a library card.

The questions can be found online at http://tinyurl.com/ovncvjz - they are also listed here:

1. Who is the author of The Mill on the Floss and what was her real name? (Clue: try searching Britannica 14+)

2. Can you find an image of the Horsehead Nebula using Britannica 14+? If so, cut and paste the website address of the page which hosts the image as your answer. (Clue: the website address should start with http://library.eb.co.uk)

3. Which Russian-born American painter was a major proponent of Colour Field Painting? (Clue: try searching Oxford Art Online)

4. Psephology is the study of what? (Clue: try searching the Oxford English Dictionary)

5. Who was the first winner of the Royal Institute of British Architects gold medal for the promotion of architecture and in what year? (Clue: try searching the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography)

6. Which composer, with the initials A.P., had his own style of composition known as 'tintinnabuli'? (Clue: try searching Oxford Music Online)

Send your answers to Gary Phillips, information services librarian, at g.a.phillips@bury.gov.uk
