Young parents given a helping hand

A free support group has been helping young mothers to boost their life chances through further education, employment and training.

The service is run by Bury Council’s youth service, Connexions and Greater Places, and young mums have now been awarded national accreditations after completing courses in developing cookery skills and basic hair and beauty.

They were presented with certificates by Klare Rufo, assistant director (learning and culture), and Kate Allam, integrated youth support service manager.

The mothers demonstrated their new cooking skills by making a buffet for the awards ceremony. Further courses on the scheme are due to begin in the coming weeks.

Klare said: “It was a true honour to spend some time with these young mums who are impressive in their efforts to improve themselves to give their children the best start in life.”
