Press release -

630 MILE WORLD RECORD BREAKING RUN

53 year old Devon man, Mark Berry, has run the 630 mile South West Coast Path in a record breaking 11days, 8 hours and 15 minutes, shaving an impressive 3 days off the current world record of 14 days, 8 hours and 2 minutes, which was only set just over a month ago.

Mark expects to raise over £10K for the CAMPAIGN AGAINST LIVING MISERABLY, CALM, the male suicide prevention charity. Mark took up running at the age of 50 and has gone on to complete a number of ultra trail runs over the past three years, including the Ultra Trail Monte Blanc, an extreme endurance race through the French and Swiss Alps.

This South West Coast Path run is his first record-breaking race, and the first to raise money and awareness for CALM.

Wanting to show others that it’s never too late to do something if you want it enough, Mark says:

“Having walked the SWCP with my wife Lorraine in October 2014, I thought it would be good to try and run back home. Through research I discovered that people had already set records for this route, so I prepared a plan to complete it in 12 days. Having now done so, I am absolutely elated and overwhelmed with people’s generosity, support and contributions to CALM.

All along the route I have had people approaching me and my support team asking about CALM and opening up about how mental health has affected them or their loved ones.

I could not have done this without the excellent support team consisting of my wife, Dave and Ally and Rob Tucker of Putsborough Sands."

CALM CEO Jane Powell says:

We are constantly amazed at the superhuman ways in which people raise funds for CALM. The money raised will go towards our helpline and literally save lives. Mark’s run will also help highlight the issue of male suicide, the single biggest killer of men aged 20-45 in the UK.“
