Press release -

CALM INVITES RUNNERS TO JOIN BRITAIN’S FORREST GUMP AS HE COMPLETES 17,000KM RUN

Jamie Ramsay to run from Heathrow to Central London after completing mammoth expedition running across the Americas from Vancouver to Buenos Aires

This Sunday – 10th January 2016 – Jamie Ramsay will land at Heathrow airport and depart with friends and family to run the final leg of his sixteen-month expedition in aid of CALM that saw him become the first Britain to run 17,000km from Vancouver in Canada to Buenos Aires in Argentina.

Nicknamed “Britain’s Forrest Gump” by media across the globe, Jamie is inviting fellow runners to join him for the final leg of his mammoth expedition as he runs from Heathrow Airport to College Green opposite the Houses of Parliament. En route, Jamie will be completing press interviews, with a mix of friends and influential industry runners joining him for the final mile of the run at 2pm under Wellington Arch, Hyde Park Corner in London. Jamie expects to arrive at College Green around 2.30pm.

During his challenge Jamie has run 17,000 kilometres (10,563 miles) across 14 different countries, running on average 45km a day (28 miles), which is more than a marathon. Jamie burnt approximately 4500-6000 calories every day and got through a total of 17 pairs of running shoes – without suffering a single blister! After attending a friend’s fundraiser in aid of CALM, Jamie chose to undertake the run in support of the male suicide prevention charity along with WaterAid and MacMillan Cancer Support. He has raised nearly £18,000 pounds so far.

Commenting, Jamie Ramsay said: “This challenge was a unique opportunity to explore the world and do something to help three charities that mean a lot to me – CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), WaterAid and MacMillan Cancer Support. It has certainly been an experience, but one I have absolutely loved. A sincere thank you to all those who have helped me succeed both during the expedition and back at home. It would be great to see as many people as possible join me for the final leg of my expedition.”

For those wishing to support Jamie in his #ForrestGumpFinish for @theCALMzone, they can join him at the following locations on Sunday 10th January:

Heathrow Terminal 5 – outside departures – at 10am to run the final 15 miles back into London. The running pace will be “leisurely” and at that of the slowest member of the group (no one will be left behind).

Hyde Park Corner - under Wellington Arch – at 2pm to run the final mile to College Gardens opposite the Houses of Parliament.

Everyone is invited to attend, to welcome Jamie at Heathrow (10am), join him on his final run of the expedition (at either Heathrow or Hyde Park Corner), or give him a cheer as he arrives at College Gardens at 2.30pm in celebration of his unique achievement.

Jamie's final run can be tracked here.

Anyone who cannot attend but would like to celebrate this extraordinary feat and support the prevention of male suicide, which is the biggest single killer of men aged under 45 in this country, can give him and CALM a cheer on social media @jamieisrunning and @theCALMzone #ForrestGumpFinish.
