Trentino Nordic Walking, Italy (Energetic)

Burning 20-40% more calories than regular walking, Nordic Walking is derived from walking with ski poles and involves applying force to the poles with each stride using more of the body for a better overall workout.

Perhaps the finest Nordic Walking area in Europe, the open pastures of the altiplano in Trentino afford great views and have the ideal terrain for trying out this sport. Initially requiring some concentration, it doesn’t take long to master the basics. Starting at a leisurely pace of 5km/hour, the average person can easily burn 350 calories/hour so with a minimum of 10 kilometres of walking through fresh mountain air surrounded by vistas of lush rolling hills and pastures dotted with flower clad villages each day, that’s an easy 700 calories before you’ve even upped the pace! Nordic walking trails are well marked, follow the contours and are good under foot so are ideal for beginners through to the more experienced walkers.

Chapters Experience Holidays: 01707 246 666 offers a 7 night Trentino Nordic Walking holiday from £960/person including flights and airport transfers, 7 nights half board en-suite accommodation, dinners in the hotel, instruction and Nordic walking equipment and all local transport costs. http://www.chaptersholidays.co.uk/trentino-nordic-walking

NB - For an alternative closer to home, try Chapters Nordic Walking in the Vale of Lune (http://www.chaptersholidays.co.uk/nordic-walking-in-the-vale-of-the-lune ) with up to 4hrs Nordic Walking/day that clocks up to 1400 calories/day .

Cycling along the River Elbe - From Prague to Dresden (Energetic)

Based on cycling at a leisurely pace of 15 km/hour with distances varying between 21-55km/day, this holiday is an easy way to burn off between 500 and 1365 calories/day in a beautiful setting*. With a backdrop of changing riverside scenery, highlights include the Elbe towns of Melnik and Litomerice, bizarre rocky landscapes of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and tours with a local guide around Prague and Dresden.

The Germans know a thing or two about cycling and have designed and built some great cycle routes, of which the Elbe path is one. Connecting the historic cities of Prague to Dresden with picturesque riverside paths running along Rivers Vltava and Elbe for just over 200 kilometres, the route explores Prague before travelling through the rural landscapes of the Czech Republic, stopping at historical monuments, magnificent castles and palaces and wonderfully preserved historical old towns in Germany on the way.

Chapters Experience Holidays: 01707 246 666 offers a one week Cycling along the Elbe holiday from £1,325/person, including flights, airport transfers, half board en-suite accommodation, dinners taken in hotels or local restaurants, cycle hire, local cycle guide, baggage transfers and all local transport.http://www.chaptersholidays.co.uk/cycling-along-the-river-elbe

Discovering Nepal (Energetic)

Trekking in the Himalayas and around Nepal is top of many travellers’ wish lists with the grandeur of world’s highest mountain ranges offering an incredible backdrop to high altitude walking, wildlife spotting and the possibility of dropping a few pounds! Whilst you may not expend the 20,000 calories that summit climbers of Everest allegedly do each day, an average hike burns 440 to 550 calories/hour depending on your weight and pack size so ‘Discovering Nepal’ will certainly lighten your load whilst extending your horizons.

With cold fresh Himalayan air and early rises to catch the sun lighting up the mountains with a pinky-red glow setting the scene for another day of energetic trekking, calories are quickly expended whilst on the daily 1000m vertical/10 km hike. Taking in the banks of the Modi River, Ghrandrung, the Annapurna Conservation project, Jhinu Springs, Landrung, Dhampus and finally Suikhet, literally breath-taking scenery is interestingly interspersed with the opportunity to spot high-altitude animals such as the red panda, Himalayan tahr (mountain goat), bharal (Himalayan blue sheep), yak and, if extremely lucky, snow leopard.

Chapters Experience Holidays: 01707 246 666 offers a two week Discovering Nepal holiday from £2,499/person and includes flights & airport transfers, full board accommodation, local trek support team, all local transport and entrance fees to highlights.
