CHAPTERS EXPERIENCE HOLIDAYS OFFER REFRESHING MOTHER’S DAY BREAKS FOR ENGLISH TOURISM WEEK

Invariably franticly busy, with little time to themselves, let alone time for pampering or learning something new, mothers more than often put everyone else first - even on Mother’s Day.

With the opportunity to get away from it all, refresh the lungs, smooth off a few lines or take to the wilds to learn a new sport, Chapters Experience Holidays (01707 246666, www.chaptersholidays.co.uk) have come up with a great alternative to the traditional Mother’s Day chocolates or bunch of flowers, to show your mother just how much you appreciate her. To coincide with English Tourism Week check out these new breaks in the heart of the English countryside.

South Downs Spa Experience Break (Leisurely)

The South Downs is a superb place to walk with forests of birch and rhododendron and rolling English countryside providing a tranquil backdrop to unwind, with no better way of enjoying it than staying in a specialist spa hotel. Hidden away in the former Royal Forest of Woolmer hunting lodge next to a lake, Champneys Forest Mere makes the perfect base for a 4-night treat with fresh invigorating walks to clear the head well rewarded by luxurious spa treatments, a few laps in the swimming pool, a spot of yoga and delicious healthy meals. In addition to the use of extensive spa facilities, the break also includes a full day’s guided walk though the Devil’s Punchbowl – a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the opportunity to try out Nordic walking and a selection of exercise classes.

Departing 2 July and 10 September four-nights costs from £615/person including full board accommodation, a yoga class with the tour leader and transport to and from walks

Nordic Walking in the Lake District (Energetic)

Staying in Hassness Country House, on the shores of Buttermere - this tranquil area of dramatic fells farms and woodland is a picture postcard perfect setting for trying out Nordic walking. After an introduction to the technique, which burns more calories than normal walking, days are spent mastering the sport on a selection of trails through Whinlatter Forest and on the walk from Keswick to the atmospheric Castlerigg Stone Circle with its amazing panoramic views to the mountains of Helvellyn and High Seat. Given that learning Nordic Walking can be quite energetic, exercise is well punctuated with relaxing lunches, leisurely home cooked meals back at base and the promise of Ruby’s superb freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea.

Departing 6 May and 11 October three-nights costs from £250/person including full board accommodation, a tour leader and transport to and from walks
