5-a-side soccer from Barcelona comes to Chorley

The local @ Futsal licence has been granted to James Winnard who will open the town’s only dedicated Futsal centre at Southlands High School.  James first became aware of Futsal back in 2008 following research on why countries such as Brazil, Spain, Argentina and Portugal systematically produce an endless stream of technically gifted players.  He discovered that many of the world’s star players had developed their technical skills playing Futsal.

James pursued his interest in Futsal and in 2011 was invited to visit Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper which is the training ground and academy base of the world famous Catalan football club, FC Barcelona. While there James discovered the importance Futsal has already played in developing players such as Iniesta, Xavi and Messi and why it is an integral part of FC Barcelona’s youth development program.

James is now ready to launch Futsal locally with tournaments, leagues and children’s coaching held at Southlands High School, Clover Road, Chorley, PR7 5NJ.  James commented “Futsal is a fantastic game, once you play it you’ll never go back to regular 5-a-side and you’ll discover why clubs such as FC Barcelona use the game to develop their youth players”.

The first youth tournament will be held on the weekend of 25th / 26th May for under 7’s through to under 12’s with all profits from the tournament being donated to The Legacy Rainbow House children’s charity.  The local leagues are set to launch in June with an adult league in conjunction with Our Local Hero’s on a Wednesday night, a percentage of takings will be donated to their charity on a ongoing basis.  Under 7’s and under 8’s development leagues on a Sunday Morning will follow along with an Under 15’s league on a Thursday evening.

Other services on offer through @ Futsal Chorley include pitch hire Monday – Friday 5.30pm till 10pm Saturday and Sunday 9am – 5pm. Also on offer are children’s soccer / Futsal coaching for children aged 3 – 16 with free taster sessions available upon request.

“Futsal is great for all ages and the FA is keen to integrate Futsal into their coaching regime so the local league will play a vital role in youth development.”

All leagues and tournaments will be FA affiliated and a percentage of income will also be donated to local charities The Legacy Rainbow House and Our Local Hero’s.

Anyone interested in trying Futsal or entering one of our upcoming leagues or tournaments should contact James on 07736 733318 or email chorley@futsaluk.net

About @ Futsal Limited

Futsal is the only officially recognised form of 5-a-side football accepted by FIFA, the world governing body for football. It is reported to be the world’s fastest growing sport with over 30 million players worldwide. Players such as Zidane, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Messi and many others have developed their abilities playing Futsal from a young age. The Football Association have recently adopted Futsal and it is now seen as a cornerstone of The FA’s strategic development plans.

What is Futsal

Futsal is a small sided version of association football (soccer). Futsal is the format of small sided football that is recognised and supported by FIFA, UEFA and recently the FA, with world and European championships taking place for club and national teams including the FUTSAL WORLD CUP.

Futsal is played between two teams of five players, one of who is a goalkeeper. In addition each team may have up to 7 substitutes, which means each team can comprise a maximum of 12 players. Unlike some other forms of 5-a-side football, the playing arena boundaries are marked with lines, and not walls or boards that players can use to rebound the ball. Futsal is played with a smaller regulation ball with 30% less bounce than normal. The ball can also be kicked above head height, so goals are similar in size to hockey goals. Corners can be taken and throw-ins are replaced by kick-ins from touch lines, both of which must be taken within 4 seconds. This makes the game very fast, dynamic and exciting. As a small-sided game, players are constantly placed in situations where they must receive or play whilst under pressure or in confined spaces and it places considerable demand on technique, movement, tactical awareness and fitness. It is also very exciting and a huge amount of fun!

@Futsal Chorley are in the process of rolling-out a number of leagues and tournaments  across the area that will enable people to play Futsal in a modern environment that will provide a refreshing and innovative playing experience.. Working closely with the national Football Association and regional Football Associations, our licensed partners will provide local leagues, tournaments and corporate events for adult and junior players, both male and female.
