22 people died in an explosion at the Manchester Arena after the end of Ariana Grande’s show around 10.30pm. 59 more people were injured by the blast which happened at the foyer of the venue.

Among the dead are many children. During the night, panicked parents were trying to find out if their children were safe since many of them went to see the pop singer unaccompanied.

Police believe that the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber who died after detonating the explosive device. They are investigating the possibility of the man being part of a larger network.

According to the chief constable Ian Hopkins, “This has been the most horrific incident we have had to face in Greater Manchester and one that we all hoped we would never see.” He said that the injured people are being treated at eight hospitals across Greater Manchester.

He clarified that the police are “treating this as a terrorist incident and we believe that while the attack last night was conducted by one man, the priority is to establish whether he was acting alone or as part of a network.”
