Theatre Deli launch new arts bar and improv theatre in the heart of the City of London

Ground-breaking arts organisation Theatre Delicatessen is partnering with British Land, GIC and The Nursery Theatre to activate a vibrant new creative space in the heart of the City.

Theatre Deli Broadgate will open its doors on Monday 12th June at 7am. It combines artistic workspace, an immersive theatre space and an arts cafe bar.

Theatre Deli Broadgate will also house the UK’s first bespoke Improv Theatre Space created and curated by the Nursery Theatre.

Over the next 2 years Theatre Deli at Broadgate will host a programme of immersive performance by London’s cutting edge theatremakers alongside weekly improv nights and commissioning installations from the UK’s most exciting young visual artists.

The project will launch with a new mural installation by visual artist Karis Knight’s, providing a stunning backdrop to the cafe. Conceived as a creative workspace, the cafe will be open for all for informal meetings, and relax surrounded by visual and interactive art

Co-Artistic Director, Jessica Brewster says,

‘We feel very privileged to have been invited by British Land and GIC to create an artistic intervention in the City landscape. Theatre Deli’s mission is to create spaces and experiences that enrich and enlarge people’s cultural lives in a way that’s woven into the everyday fabric of their lives. Our partnership with British Land and GIC represents an incredible opportunity to be able to bring that to the City’s workers, perfecting complementing our projects with communities in Sheffield and Camberwell.

The programme of performance will kick off with the summer programme from The Nursery Theatre. Performances every Thursday, Friday and Saturday will showcase talent from the British and American improv circuits.

The space will also house Theatre Deli’s creative rehearsal and workspace for artists, ‘Deli Studios.’ Working in tandem with Theatre Deli at The Old Library in Camberwell it will provide affordable rehearsal and development space to artists, and host Theatre Deli’s artist residencies and development programmes.

Theatre Delicatessen exists to enrich and enlarge our cultural and creative lives.

We believe that the strength of our lives is in the strength of our imagination and the stories we have of ourselves and each other, and that to do this both people and places should be given the opportunity to reach their full creative potential.

To do this, we unlock empty spaces at the heart where people live and work so that access to creativity and culture is interwoven into their everyday lives. It is our mission to create, stage and support theatre and art that explores our shared cultural experiences, memories and moments, breaking down the boundaries between audience, artist, space and place.

We do this in four ways:

- Supporting artists in the creation of their work, with a specific focus on visceral artforms that audiences can touch, play and participate in

- Collaborating with property developers, local authorities, and institutions to build alternative cultural spaces in the heart of communities that encourage people to effortlessly engage and participate with the arts, live events and creativity

- Support local community creativity by providing resources for groups to work, meet and play

- Exploring tools that further our mission to support people to grow their creative potential, including new technologies, education and relationships
