DIANA ROSS DIABETES FUNDRAISER TO ROCK PORTSMOUTH

A local Diana Ross and Motown tribute singer, whose family has a history of Diabetes, is to donate an evening to Hampshire headquartered charity Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation (DRWF) in a spectacular fundraising dinner to be hosted at Tiger Tiger, Gunwharf Quay, on Friday 17 March.

Singer Gloria Miller says she is supporting the charity because of her personal experience of the health challenges diabetes creates for some of her family: “This is so close to my heart. Many of my family including both parents and four of my remaining siblings have been diagnosed with this common condition, so I am very happy to be donating my time to perform as Diana Ross at this special fundraiser in aid of DRWF.

“There are more than three million people in the UK who live with Diabetes, so it’s likely that you will have a close friend or family member who is affected by this condition too. The Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation provide valuable information and support to help these people self-manage their condition and are instrumental in funding much-needed research into Diabetes, both in the UK and around the world,” explained Gloria.

The evening is also sponsored by Tiger Tiger with a free prosecco reception to kick start the evening. Tickets are just £40 for a three course meal in the private Club Room and Gloria is promising a fabulous night: “It will be full of your favourite Motown Hits, so I urge everyone to visit the DRWF site and book their tickets NOW! Couples are welcome, but a table full would be even better! Join us on 17th March for a night to remember and support this extremely worthwhile cause.”

Tickets can be bought by calling 02392 636138 or emailing fundraising@drwf.org.uk. Plus there’s more information on the website http://bit.ly/MotownEvening

DRWF Chief Executive Sarah Bone said: “Gloria is making a fabulous contribution to what will be a great fundraising evening. So get dressed up and put on your dancing shoes for what promises to be a night to remember. We are very grateful to Gloria and Tiger Tiger for making the evening possible and ensuring the majority of the ticket price will go to the charity.”

The DRWF charity is based on Hayling Island and works across the UK providing information and support to help people to self-manage their condition, including the ever popular annual Diabetes Wellness Day this year on July 22nd at The Solent Hotel, Whiteley. The charity is also instrumental in diabetes research funding in the UK and around the world in order to better understand the causes, prevention, treatment and management, but ultimately to find a cure.

The Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation (DRWF) is a registered charity, established in 1998 to raise public awareness to type 1 and type 2 diabetes, associated complications, treatment, avoidance and relief and to provide support to people living with diabetes. Whilst funding diabetes research we aim to ensure that people are ‘staying well until a cure is found...’

In the past 15 years the UK has seen the number of people diagnosed with diabetes almost double, and this continues to rise rapidly. More than one in 20 of the population now lives with diabetes and it is estimated that there will be 5 million people affected by 2025.

While DRWF is an independent, autonomous charity, working for the benefit of people within the United Kingdom, internationally, Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation exists also as a non-profit organisation in the United States of America, in France under the name "Association pour la recherche sur le diabète", and also Sweden (DWNS) and in Finland. We share the same goals and don’t lose sight of the bigger picture, enabling us to take advantage of our international dimension for the benefit of the charity and our beneficiaries.
