Press release -

How the education sector can reduce waste, save money and, help the environment

With education budgets per student at the lowest they have been for several years, Direct-Tec - the independent provider of print, document, IT and photocopy solutions for businesses and public-sector organisations – are recommending software that can monitor printer, scanner and copier usage patterns to help reduce paper waste and cut spending.

Simon Riley, Sales Director at Direct-Tec says: “With estimates that the average secondary school pupil produces 22kg of waste each year and a primary school pupil 45kg - most of which comes from paper and card - saving money by cutting waste can have a positive financial impact.”

Mr.Riley explains that excess printing is a huge financial burden on educational institutions and the majority of paper waste occurs from users printing to a device and then forgetting, or simply not bothering, to collect their documents.

By using PaperCut software – which is a print management solution – school administrators can track printing, copying and scanning activities by user, device or department. This allows them to monitor usage patterns and costs and take appropriate action when necessary.

The ability to implement quotas and restrict where and when mono, colour and duplex printing can take place has been proven to facilitate significant cost savings.

Mr. Riley summarises: “Despite being a print company, we take our corporate social responsibility seriously and are always keen to reduce paper waste. PaperCut helps our customers’ save money and helps the environment.”
