London's infamous Dirty Water Club celebrates 20 years: Radio Birdman, The Real Kids, Kid Congo Powers - live!

Now a London institution, the first ever Dirty Water Club night took place in October 1996 in Tufnell Park. The club began at The Boston Arms venue in north London and is named after the Standells’ hit ‘Dirty Water’ which glorifies the US city of Boston, Massachusetts. 

Musician and artist Billy Childish played at the Dirty Water Club more than anyone else with his various bands -Thee Headcoats, the Buff Medways and the Musicians of the British Empire. There was also a re-union gig for his first ever band the Pop Rivets. Childish performed monthly until he began a live hiatus in May 2010.”

Past performers have included  The White Stripes (voted by Q Magazine as one of the top 10 gigs of all time, Mojo one of the top 30 and Kerrang one of the top 100!), The Gories, NOBUNNY, Kid Congo Powers (from the Cramps), The Fleshtones, Billy Childish, The Gories, Radio Birdman, Country Teasers, Lyres, The Dirtbombs, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, The 5.6.7.8's, The Horrors and The Brian Jonestown Massacre to name just a few. The club has also seen some original '60s performers, such as The Monks, ? and the Mysterians, Kim Fowley, Sky Saxon, GONN, Michael Davis of the MC5 and more grace its stage.

The club celebrates its 20th anniversary with a string of shows happening from Sunday, June 26th, when Radio Birdman kicks off a week that also features Boston's The Real Kids and Kid Congo Powers and the Monkey Birds all performing live. Tickets to these events are selling out fast!  You can still order advance tickets here to avoid the inevitable let down of turning up on the night, only to be turned away!
