Blood, gore and more: framed for your delight
Embellishing your walls with images from classic horror films may not seem immediately obvious. However, popular taste has taken a darker turn, timed with the upcoming Halloween festivities.
Horror on Celluloid
Janet Leigh screaming for her life in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (1960)
Mark Gatiss' series on BBC4 last year, A History of Horror, served as a reminder of how many iconic images come from horror cinema, ranging from Janet Leigh's showering screamfest in Psycho to campy images of Christopher Lee, about to plunge his fangs into his latest hapless victim. The fascination with vampires continues to this day, as the Twilight films prove, with Part I of Breaking Dawn being released on 18 November in the UK.
Beyond a Joke
Homer Simpson, possibly terrified by the approach of his family?
The formulas of horror films are now well known, resulting in many directors mocking the conventions of horror films in Scary Movie from 2000 and Wes Anderson's Scream quartet. Edvard Munch's The Scream has also been given the film and TV twist, with parodies featuring the Scream masked murderer and even Homer Simpson, forming a hilarious trio for any wall.
The lure of the Gothic
Queen of the Damned? Vampire Girl by Victoria Frances
Anne Rice's novels have been turned into films such as Interview With The Vampire starring Tom Cruise and these gothic depictions of morbid female figures by Spanish artist Victoria Frances would make a worthy book jacket cover for one of Rice's novels.
This is just a sampler from our range of horror images, see here for more from our extensive range.
