Press release —
Limited Edition Leonardo at The National Gallery
Wednesday November 9 sees the opening of Leonardo Da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan at The National Gallery in London, and the anticipation is high, based on ticket sales for this exhibition, bringing an unprecedented 7 out of the 14 paintings that Leonardo produced in his lifetime.
One of them, the sublime The Virgin of the Rocks has recently been restored by conservationists. Easyart.com is proud to have a license from The National Gallery which ensures the art print reproduction of this masterwork, available to buy from The National Gallery collection on our online store, is the most faithful match to the original, as a result of colour-proofing and state-of-the-art production methods.
The Virgin of the Rocks, part of Easyart's National Gallery collection. The actual painting will be hung at the exhibition with it's other surviving version, on loan from the Louvre in Paris.
The Leonardo exhibition, which focuses on works produced by the artist in the late 1480s and 1490s when he painted for the Milanese ruler of the time, Duke Ludovico Sforza. The display also promises to be radical in:
- encouraging people to study notes on the website to reduce time spent reading the side description to each art work
- a reduction in the number of people at the show at any one time, down from 230 to 180
- extended opening hours every weekend, up until 10pm
The Leonardo Cartoon (which was shot at with a sawn off shot gun in 1987!) will also make an appearance, despite the time and place of it's production being disputed to this very day.
The Leonardo Cartoon, more formally known as The Virgin and Child with St Anne and St John the Baptist
Unfortunately, the Mona Lisa, with her beguiling smile, won't be making an appearance. Despite her continuing influence, whether on Andy Warhol, or on a recent cover of Stylist magazine, the French authorities will never let her leave her bulletproof glass home!
