Local Lions clubs support ellenor

Colin McRobert, President of Swanley and North Downs Lions, visited ellenor Gravesend recently to present the charity’s Chief Executive, Claire Cardy, with a cheque for £6000 – an amount which could pay for a typical patient stay on the inpatient ward at ellenor Gravesend.

The group recently also gave ellenor a similar amount of money, which was used to purchase syringe drivers for the inpatient ward - battery powered pumps which deliver medication, typically to treat symptoms such as pain.

“We are extremely grateful for the ongoing support from all our local Lions clubs,” says Claire Cardy. “The pressure on our services is growing all the time and we currently receive between 200 and 300 referrals a month, so donations like this are extremely important in helping us to continue providing support to our patients and their families.”

In addition to raising money for ellenor, members of Swanley and North Downs Lions also volunteer at the charity’s shop in Swanley on a Saturday – helping to keep it open on this key shopping day in the town.

Other local Lions’ clubs have also continued to support ellenor through a variety of activities, including golf days, cycle and running events.

“We rely on the generosity of the local community – including organisations such as the Lions Clubs – to help us to continue to care and support families facing terminal illness in Kent,” adds Claire. “We are so grateful for that ongoing support.”
