Nine finalists for prestigious industry award

Nine finalists have been announced for the transport industry’s most prestigious award – the Future Transport Award, which will be presented in celebratory style at Elmia Future Transport in Jönköping, Sweden on 7 October. Three finalists will compete in each of three categories: Public Transport, Intermodal Goods and Road Safety.

The finalists for the Intermodal Goods category are DB Schenker/Jula-pendeln, Real Rail and Green Cargo/Bring. The DB Schenker/Jula-pendeln service has been nominated for its climate-smart, logistically efficient transport solution from import harbour to central warehouse. Real Rail has been shortlisted for purposefully and efficiently developing its freight transport between southern/western Sweden and central/northern Sweden, with responsibility for much of the entire chain, including its own trucks.

Green Cargo/Bring have been nominated because both companies have begun to use intermodal transport on a large scale, using and varying the modes of transports for freight, between Skåne and Stockholm and also between Sweden and Norway. Green Cargo won the award last time, back in 2013, but for different reasons. Now they could win the prestigious award yet again.

“We are delighted to be nominated again this year. It strengthens our faith in our ability to build efficient, sustainable transport solutions for transport buyers of all sizes,” says Sohana Josefsson, Marketing and Communication Director at Green Cargo.

Overall approach and hub

The finalists in the Public Transport category are Eskilstuna Municipality, Mora Travel Centre and Stenpiren Travel Centre in Gothenburg. Eskilstuna Municipality has been nominated for its overall approach to travel in the Mälardalen region, for passenger and freight services alike.

Mora Travel Centre, which opened at the end of last year, has been named a finalist for the way in which the new node facilitates travel, meetings, public transport and activities with rapid switches between the modes of transport. Stenpiren Travel Centre in Gothenburg has been nominated for the way in which the brand new travel centre has, according to the panel, given the city an attractive, smoothly functioning node and terminal building, a hub for switching between tram, bus and ferry.

Security, health and safety

The finalists in the Road Security category are NCC, Sensys and the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute. All three have been nominated for various solutions and concepts they have developed to improve security, health and safety during roadworks.

All the nominees will present their solutions at the fair in the form of a seminar. The award itself will be presented in celebratory style when everyone gathers for the big Trade Night on 7 October.

“It’s a weighty award in more ways than one. It is cast in brass and weighs just over four kilos, but the real weight comes from the fact that it’s the only award to be presented in front of such a large gathering of people in the industry. We are also seeing interest in the prize and the number of nominations increase every year,” says Jörgen Nyström, Business Sector Manager for Elmia Future Transport.
