Premiere for the STB 7 and STB 12

The service operation vessels for offshore wind farms get newly developed Safe Transfer Boats

The SOVs are to be equipped with the STB 7 and STB 12; ESVAGT’s entirely newly developed Safe Transfer Boats designed specifically for offshore wind farms.

The boats benefit from ESVAGT’s 20 years of experience designing and developing the most optimal boats, and both new designs have proven themselves to be exceptionally capable during tests. Fundamentally, focus has been on optimising the boats to ensure safe transfer for wind turbine technicians more than for saving human lives in extreme weather.

The STB 7 is particularly stable, manoeuvrable and powerful in reverse. Powerful, in built, thrusters have proven to be invaluable in heavy sea current. Wind turbines at sea only have one landing and the powerful thrusters make it possible to go right onto the landing – no matter how heavy the current.

The STB 12, the first covered boat in ESVAGT’s own design, is extremely manoeuvrable thanks to its two extra bow thrusters. The boat is very comfortable and noise level is low in the cabin. With manoeuvring room both fore and aft, it has been optimised for the transportation of spare parts and goods. The boat has been put through comprehensive safety testing, as is standard for ESVAGT. The boat itself has been load tested to 32 tons and the hook system to 152 tons. The boat is an independent unit that can, for example, sail to land to collect spare parts.

Both the STB 7 and the STB 12 have inbuilt redundancy in all areas that provide back up systems in case of failure.

The STBs have been designed as a supplement to the Walk to Work gangway system.
