A Central Government organisation based in London is currently recruiting for a Director of Communications who has a background within the public sector. The roles are for an interim basis for an initial 6 month contract for an immediate start.

Our client is looking for a highly motivated Director of Communications. This is a challenging role which will involve the development and implementation of an integrated communications strategy for the organisation. The post holder will build a joined up communications plan that will enable Director Generals, Chief Executives and Non-Executive Board Members to deliver strong communications and manage reputational issues. The Director will also provide strategic and professional leadership among all communications staff, promoting effective communications and stakeholder management across the organisation. The post holder will also ensure appropriate alignment with the wider government priorities, working alongside HM Treasury, No 10 and the Cabinet Office.

The Director of Communications has responsibility for: 

  • Communications and marketing activity, with oversight and professional leadership of all communications to ensure effective use of digital media and cost effective marketing solutions are put in place;
  • Providing advice and practical solutions for managing the reputation of the organisation, dealing proactively with politically sensitive issues quickly;
  • Building a strong external communications network across a very wide range of stakeholders including government and the wider public sector and all manner of media;
  • Building and maintaining effective professional relationships with journalists and other media representative to ensure messaging is given appropriate priority;
  • The development of a joined up approach and consistency of communications across the organisation, including improved prioritisation of communications and marketing efforts and resource;
  • Developing the communications strategy, including the development of a social and new media strategy, as well as full range of traditional media to support the Governments ‘Digital by Default’ strategy.
