RLBUHT Going Paperless: The Journey so far

Fortrus continue to work closely with RLBUH to deliver paper free working, as we approach the end of the year we also approach a pivotal stance in the Paper Free Programme at RLBUH. Almost all specialties are now live across the Trust with paper free ways of working utilising a host of systems to aid their new working processes. The Patient Electronic Notes System (PENS) allows users to electronically capture data at the point of care. RLBUH have developed approximately 400 forms for clinicians to utilise in their everyday working practices. In addition to this, clinicians are now also utilising Unity to review legacy casenotes. 

The paper casenotes have been scanned into Unity which provides a unique user interface that allows users to search and review clinical information held in the patient case note.

Electronic Observations (E-NEWS) roll –out has also begun, the in-house developed solution is a foundation stone for patient monitoring that can be used within the current build and therefore starts the transition of working with new systems and new technologies that will be available within the new hospital. Together these systems form the basis of paper free working, a practice that will soon become second nature as the Trust prepare to move into their new digital hospital next year.
