Press release -

Frebaco's Swedish nut-free breakfast cereals now available at Tesco

A hugely popular Swedish nut-free range of mueslis and porridge from family-owned milling company FREBACO KVARN has been launched in the UK in 80 selected Tesco stores and at www.tesco.com as part of the supermarket chain’s Lifestyle Food Fair. In 2003 Tesco became the first major retailer to stock a dedicated Free From range to cater for customers with allergies and food intolerances. The company has extended its Free From range as part of the Lifestyle Food Fair and Frebaco Kvarn’s Organic Muesli, Fruit Muesli, Oat & Fruit Porridge and Oat & Barley Porridge are now available from The Nut-Free Zone at Tesco, an area dedicated to those who suffer from nut allergies.

Frebaco’s Managing Director, Stefan Hollerup is pleased to be expanding into Europe in response to this this demand: “We’re delighted to be sharing our unique, nut-free, nutritious, quality products with the UK market via Tesco”.

The NHS has stated that one or two people in a hundred in the UK has a food allergy, with the most common being fish, shellfish or nuts. The Free From food market has soared by 50% in the last year and is now worth £360million according to research by Kantar data in April 2014.

Tesco’s Free From foods spokesperson, Lauren Tredgett commented: “The massive growth in demand is being driven by an increase in customers becoming more aware of their intolerances, and also by those who are looking for foods with added health benefits. As a result, Tesco has scoured the globe to source the widest range of products for our customers”.

Lynne Regent, Chief Executive of The Anaphylaxis Campaign charity for people with severe allergies added: “The Anaphylaxis Campaign are always pleased to see the introduction of new products taking in to consideration the allergic consumer and welcomes companies looking to offer a wider choice to those who are affected by severe allergies.”

FREBACO KVARN is a family-owned Swedish company that started processing cereal products from the fertile plains of Vastergotland in Sweden back in 1981. Established on a philosophy of personal approach, commitment and creativity, Frebaco Kvarn is a small-scale mill where passion and enthusiasm permeate the entire operation and workforce. The majority of its raw ingredients are sourced locally and they are handled in a responsible way to maintain optimum nutrition and natural flavour. The products are of the highest quality and the company maintains the utmost honesty and integrity regarding its raw ingredients and the milling process.

Certified as a “nut-free” company, nuts are not allowed anywhere in the factory. Likewise all ingredient suppliers to Frebaco have similar certification and strict procedures.  All of the products are tested for the following tree nuts and peanuts: almonds, brazil nuts, cashew kernels, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, peanuts, pecan nuts, pistachio nuts and walnuts.   Frebaco also has EU organic certification and is certified by the Swedish organic authority KRAV.

It is now universally recognized that good food plays a major role in overall health and wellbeing and in the modern world where many people are striving to avoid overly processed foods, Frebaco prides itself on developing products that contain natural, healthy, high quality ingredients that taste good, are supremely nutritious and fit a modern lifestyle.

Frebaco is a corporate member of the Anaphylaxis Campaign in the UK.
