No single supplements on selected Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ 'Festive Cruises'

To make cruising over the festive season even more attractive to solo guests, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has introduced a ‘no single supplement’ on certain grades of twin cabins for sole occupancy, on a selection of Christmas cruises. These special ‘no single supplement’ deals mean that a solo guest, occupying a twin cabin, will pay the same per person rate as a couple, on applicable cruises.

The welcoming, sociable atmosphere that is always found aboard Fred. Olsen’s fleet of four ships – Balmoral, Braemar, Boudicca and Black Watch – is perfect for people who are travelling solo. Once on board, solo travellers will find exclusive gatherings for them to get to know each other, and staff on board will seat them together for dinner, and arrange companions for solo travellers when going ashore, if required. There are also Gentleman Hosts and Dance Couples on board the ships to provide dancing partners for solo guests.

Guests can also take advantage of Fred. Olsen’s great-value ‘all-inclusive’ drinks package, from just £29.00 per person per night, on selected beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks.

So, whether a solo guest wants to explore the enchanting European Christmas markets, or bask in some Winter sun courtesy of Cape Verde, the Canaries or the golden beaches of the Caribbean, there are plenty of ‘Festive Cruises’ to choose from:

- Black Watch’s two-night W1422 ‘Pre-Christmas Mini Cruise to Belgium’, departing from Tilbury on 18th December 2014. Prices start from £198 per person.

Black Watch will take guests to Zeebrugge (Belgium), the gateway for tours to one of Northern Europe’s most picturesque old cities, Bruges. Explore the UNESCO-listed twisting cobbled streets, picturesque ancient buildings, tree-lined canals and gabled facades, whilst getting any last-minute presents at the wonderfully festive Christmas markets.

- Black Watch’s 16-night W1420 ‘In Search of the Northern Lights’ cruise, departing from Tilbury on 20th December 2014. Prices start from £2,064 per person.

First port of call for guests on board Black Watch is Haugesund, Norway – where Harald Fairhair, the first King of Norway, is said to be buried. Guests can visit St. Olav’s Church, which was built by a Viking King, or learn about the city’s fascinating past at the Nordvegan History Centre.

Black Watch will then arrive in Ålesund, Norway. Guests can visit the Atlanterhavsparken, which is one of the biggest aquariums in Scandinavia and has an interesting array of marine life to discover, before spending one night and two days in Tromsø, Norway. Here, guests will be in one of the best spots to see the incredible Northern Lights.

After an overnight stay in Alta in Finnmark, Norway – another destination for guests to see the outstanding dancing lights of ‘Aurora Borealis’ – Black Watch will arrive in Trondheim, Norway. Founded over 1,000 years ago, Trondheim is packed with interesting sights, from the Gothic-style Nidaros Cathedral to an eclectic choice of museums.

Next stop is Bergen – Norway’s second city. There are many attractions for guests to explore, including the UNESCO-listed Bryggen Wharf, with its colourful timbered houses and cobbled streets; a vibrant fish market and the Troldhaugen Museum, the former home of Norway’s most famous composer, Edvard Grieg. Guests can also ride the funicular railway up Mount Fløyen for spectacular, panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Black Watch will then arrive in Stavanger, Norway, a vibrant and exciting city which oozes charm. The old town, Gamle Stavanger, has narrow winding streets and ancient wooden houses gathered around the market. Discover Stavanger Cathedral, which dates back to the Middle Ages, or visit one of the city’s many wonderful museums.

- Braemar’s 13-night M1434 ‘Canaries New Year & The Caribbean’ fly-cruise, via Santa Cruz, Tenerife, on 30th December 2014. Prices start from £1,499 per person (including return flights from London Gatwick or Manchester, and transfers to / from the ship).

Arriving in Santa Cruz (Tenerife), guests will have plenty of time to explore before the New Year celebrations get under way. As well as live music and fireworks on New Year’s Eve, guests can also discover the El Teide National Park, the mysterious Pyramids of Guimar, the bright Botanical Gardens, or relax on the sandy beach of Playa de las Teresitas.

Braemar will then cruise along the ‘Tropic of Cancer’, before arriving in the Caribbean. First call is St. John’s (Antigua), where guests will have time to venture across the island to discover English Harbour and Nelson’s Dockyard, full of maritime history and stunning modern yachts.

Next stop is Philipsburg (St. Maarten), home to gourmet food, world-class Duty Free shopping, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere, with a Caribbean twist.

After a day in the lush tropics of Roseau (Dominica), guests will arrive in Castries (St. Lucia). This vibrant destination offers guests a chance to relax on the white sandy beaches or visit the world’s only ‘drive-in’ volcano – ‘Sulphur Springs’.

Braemar then continues to Bridgetown (Barbados), from where guests will fly back to the UK.

Fred. Olsen was delighted to be named one of the Top 3 UK cruise lines and awarded a prestigious ‘Recommended Provider’ accolade, in Which?’s first-ever dedicated cruise survey in 2014. Experts at influential consumer website Cruise Critic have also voted Fred. Olsen ‘Best Value for Money’ in its ‘Cruise Critic UK Editors’ Picks Awards 2014’,for the third consecutive year.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
