The beginning of 2011 was marked by a sharp rise in volumes at the Port of Gothenburg. During the summer however, growth levelled out and in the autumn, there was a fall in import and export volumes for several categories of goods. Despite this, the figures for 2011 reveal record volumes for container traffic.
The Port of Gothenburg has gained a new container sea route to and from the UK. The route is being introduced by the French-owned MacAndrews shipping line and will call into APM Terminals Gothenburg, the container terminal in the Port of Gothenburg, every Friday.
The world's largest container carrier, Maersk Line and Broström have decided to join the Port of Gothenburg campaign for cleaner shipping. The two shipping companies are currently switching to fuel with a maximum of 0.1 per cent sulphur when they operate in the port area. Five shipping companies are now participating in the Port of Gothenburg environmental campaign for cleaner shipping.
