20 out of 28 Motorists stopped by police in Southampton had issues with their vehicles or were committing offences

20 out of 28 Motorists stopped by police in Southampton on Thursday, (December13), had issues with their vehicles or were committing offences. 

The day of action, part of Operation Holly, was carried out in partnership with the Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency in Northern Bridge, Southampton.

Twenty eight vehicles were stopped in total and only eight of those were in the clear.

  • 11 Prohibition Notices were issued for various failings including tyres, lights, brakes, bodywork and suspensions in poor condition. One vehicle was also missing an indicator and was considered unroadworthy and also had no insurance so was seized by officers. The owner will be summonsed to court.
  • Two drivers were dealt with for having no insurance – their vehicles were seized and the owners will receive six points and a £300 fines. (One of those drivers was also served a prohibition notice).
  • Two drivers were fined £100 each for not wearing a seatbelt.
  • Five drivers were given advice for various offences involving tyres and lights.
  • One motorist was reported for having no road tax.
  • Drivers who committed moving traffic offences were also breath tested for drink driving - no-one provided a positive test.

Operation Holly is an operation to target drivers impaired through drink or drugs over the festive season.

Officers from both Hampshire Constabulary and Thames Valley Police are conducting operations throughout December.
