Appeal and advice after student properties in Portsmouth burgled

We are appealing for information after a number of student properties in Southsea and central Portsmouth were targeted by burglars.

The details and crime reference numbers are as follows:

Lake Road, Portsmouth

Between 4pm and 8.20pm on Thursday 27 September

Suspect/s entered ground floor flat through an insecure window

Paystation 4 taken

Between 10pm on Wednesday 26 September and 8.30am on Thursday 27 September

Property entered from the rear

Two bikes to the value of £2,500 stolen

Between just after midnight on Saturday 22 September and 7pm on Tuesday 25 September

No signs of forced entry

Bank cards and electrical items taken

Between 3pm and 4pm on Monday 24 September

Entry gained via insecure window

Items stolen include three laptops

Attempted burglary - front door damaged to gain entry

The occupants were inside the address and the suspect ran off

Students are urged to:

  • Consider the security of your individual bedroom door
  • Make an agreement between you and the other residents that anyone leaving the property ensures that all doors and windows are closed, locked and secured
  • Ensure front and back doors are locked at all times
  • Ensure that windows are closed in rooms that are not being used
  • Do not leave any electrical and/or expensive items in view of doors and windows
  • Hide or lock away expensive/sentimental/attractive belongings before you go out
  • Make a record of the make, model and serial numbers of any electrical items, such as laptops and mobile phones
  • Photograph any bicycles and make a record of the frame numbers
  • Contact your letting agent if you feel that the security of the doors and windows is not adequate
