Appeal for phone footage after Southampton Common incident

We are urging members of the public to send in their mobile phone footage of the incident on Southampton Common last night (13 December).

Officers arrived on scene just after 4.20pm following reports of a man with a knife threatening people near the Cowherds pub.

Three members of the public were injured:

  • 17-year-old girl treated at Southampton General Hospital and released last night
  • 50-year-old man and 18-year-old woman - did not require hospital treatment

Officers deployed a Taser at the scene to detain a 34-year-old man from Southampton. He was arrested and remains in police custody.

A police presence remains on Southampton Common for public reassurance - please speak to officers if you have any concerns or information.

We are investigating the circumstances of this incident but do not believe it to be terrorism related.
