Appeal for witnesses after elderly man assaulted in his Basingstoke home

We are appealing for witnesses after two men forced their way into the home of an elderly man in Basingstoke.

Officers were called to an address in Selby Walk, Popley, to reports of a burglary just after 8pm yesterday (October 18).

Two men had broken into the address and threatened the home owner, a man in his 80s.

One of the men hit the victim on the head with a blunt object, leaving him with a cut to his head.

The two men stole a quantity of cash and a cheque book.

Both men are described as being white, in their mid-20s and of a medium build.

One of them may have been wearing a brown jacket.

Police staff investigator Karen Slade said: “This was understandably an upsetting experience for this gentleman. Fortunately he did not require hospital treatment.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen two men acting suspiciously in the area that day.

“Did you see anyone hanging around matching the descriptions? Did you see anyone running off around 8pm yesterday?”
