Family heirloom stolen during purse theft

Can you help us reunite a stolen family heirloom with its rightful owner?

We are investigating after a purse was stolen from a driveway in Alma Road, Southampton, which contained bank cards, cash, and four rings.

The purse was later found by a member of the public and handed in to a shop in Lodge Road. All the items were still in it except for a sentimental gold ring.

Unfortunately we don’t have a photo of this ring, but it is quite distinctive. It is a plain gold wedding band, approximately 3-4mm wide, and is engraved on the inside with the words ‘James and Jean 2nd July 1944’.

This wedding ring belonged to the victim’s grandmother who got married during the Second World War. It was then passed to the victim following her death four years ago.

Has someone tried to sell you this ring? Do you know anyone who may have the item?
