Operation Experience: Southampton murder investigation update

Officers continue to investigate the murder of a man whose body was found near Cemetery Road in Southampton yesterday evening (Saturday 3 November).

On Friday 2 November an investigation was commenced into the sudden disappearance of a 66-year-old man from Southampton, who had not been seen since 6.30am on Thursday 1 November.

On Saturday 3 November police officers located a body, believed to be this man, in woodland off of Cemetery Road.

Seven people have been questioned in connection with the man’s disappearance.

A 31-year-old woman, a 20-year-old man, a 25-year-old man, a 23-year-old man, a 24-year-old man and a 36-year-old man all from Southampton have been released from police custody but remain under investigation.

A 34-year-old man remains in police custody to enable further enquiries to be made.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Officer David Morgan, continues to appeal for witnesses and information.

He said: “I would like to specifically hear from people that were in the vicinity of Cemetery Road any time between 00.01 hours on Thursday 1 November and 17.00 hrs on Saturday 3 November.

“Even small bits of information that might seem insignificant may turn out to be very valuable to the investigation, so please get in contact.”
