Press release -

Update on car theft burglaries in Southampton and Eastleigh

Officers have today (July 18) arrested another person as part of the investigation into a series of burglaries where cars have been stolen.

An 18-year-old man was arrested this morning on suspicion of burglary and is currently being questions by officers in our Operation Hawk team.

So far, officers from the team have arrested four teenage boys in connection with the crimes; a 16-year-old boy was charged yesterday (July 17) with two counts of burglary, another 16-year-old boy was arrested and questioned by officers, he was released but remains under investigation. The 18-year-old man that was arrested yesterday has been released from police custody, but he also remains under investigation.

Operation Hawk continue to investigate burglaries across Southampton and surrounding areas where cars have been stolen and they are linking crimes where patterns in locations and potential suspects are identified.

We have increased patrols in Bitterne, Sholing, Portswood, Hedge End and West End which are the areas that have been affected and we will continue to pursue those responsible. Bitterne and Sholing are the most affected areas. We would ask the public to help prevent these crimes too by following our crime prevention advice.

Remember to lock accessible doors and windows. Take your keys out of the lock and place well away from the door.
