Tips for Recycling Your Construction Waste

What to Recycle and How?

First of all, you should know which parts of your construction waste can be recycled or reused and how that could be done. Here are a few pointers in that regard:

  • Masonry – it can be reused in construction or crushed to make a road base.
  • Fixtures and appliances, including bathtubs, sinks, etc. – these can be refitted elsewhere or sent for waste recycling.
  • Doors, windows and roofing – these can be used in other building projects, if salvageable, or alternatively recycled into new materials.
  • Wood and lumber – these can be turned into biomass fuel or mulch.
  • Metals – scrap metals can be smelted and used to produce new objects and materials.
  • Paper and cardboard – these can be recycled into other products or sent for pulping.
  • Plastic bags, crates, containers, sheets, etc. – you can reuse these in another project or send them for recycling.

Think about the Waste before You Start Building

As you can see, a large part of your builders waste can be reused or recycled, but efficient builders waste removal requires some preparation in advance. You should think about the building junk before you start your project and plan for its collection and disposal/recycling well in advance, as you are making your other plans for the construction. Designate a place where the construction debris will be placed and make sure the waste will be out of the way and won’t cause any tripping hazards or obstruct the work of the builders. Recycling the builders waste should also be a part of your plan and you should make provisions for it in advance. Check what waste types you will have to deal with and how best they can be reused or recycled.

Collect Building Junk Separately

Different types of construction waste should be deposited in different piles for easier processing later on. For instance, put all concrete, asphalt, bricks, sand, etc, in a separate pile. Wood and scrap doors and windows should be collected separately too. Also, make sure you keep old cables, plastic and other recyclable materials in a separate pile as well. Sorting and separating the building junk will make builders waste removal much easier and will lower your costs for waste disposal too, as the waste will be ready for collection, sorted by type and material.

Find a Local Recycling Depot or Construction Clearance Company

You should find a local recycling centre that accepts construction waste and send all your building junk there for reprocessing. That will guarantee you that your waste is handled in line with all regulations and won’t harm the environment. Alternatively, and especially in the cases where you don’t have a suitable vehicle for transporting the debris and other builders waste, you can hire a construction clearance company to dispose of the waste for you and ensure it is properly recycled. Select a company with a good reputation and fair prices and leave the task to them. That will spare you a lot of hard work and stress.

Builders waste collection and recycling should be approached responsibly and carried out with care and attention to detail. Follow these tips the next time you need to dispose of some construction waste and debris and you won’t have any troubles in the process.
