HONEYWELL EXPANDS FIRE/FLAME DETECTION CAPABILITIES WITH ADVANCED RANGE OF ELECTRO-OPTICAL SOLUTIONS

POOLE, United Kingdom, May 2013 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) has announced the integration of a range of proven electro-optical fire/flame detectors capable of maximising uptime and reducing ongoing costs.

With leading-edge detection capabilities and enhanced performance that virtually removes the occurrence of nuisance alarms, the integration of fire/flame detection complements
Honeywell Analytics’ existing gas detection product offering, allowing the brand to provide a complete solution for industrial fire/flame and gas detection.

The new range delivers versatile application monitoring addressing petrochemical, semiconductor and paint booth/finishing industries. Leading-edge performance and stability is achieved through a combination of advanced state-of-the-art aerospace-grade sensing technologies, sophisticated dual microprocessors, software algorithms and the combination of multiple detection technologies into single products.

The comprehensive range includes a variety of options, combining Ultraviolet (UV),
Visual (VIS) and Infrared (IR) detection technologies that compensate for cross-interference stimulating phenomena like corona discharge, arc welding, lightening (including Quartz lightning) and other common non-fire events.

Many conventional electro-optical solutions cannot offer the same degree of non-fire event immunity as Honeywell Analytics’ devices and many brands only provide DualBand or
Narrow TripleBand detection capability, i.e. the combination of two different sensing techniques such as

IR/IR or UV/IR. The Honeywell Analytic’s FSX range (FS20X and FS24X), includes TripleBand and QuadBand technologies offering maximised stability, with three or four detection sensors employed in a single device.

Unlike many competitors, Honeywell Analytics’ products use “Quantum” IR sensors that provide greater stability and a higher operational temperature. Electro-optical sensing is further enhanced by real-time processing of all radiant energy to determine a fire event. This is achieved by using patented technologies known as FireLogic including FirePic™ and Tri-Mode Plot™ algorithms, delivering high performance signal processing. These aspects facilitate real-time analysis of all radiant energy readings, helping to deliver some of the most stable detecting solutions available in the electro-optical fire/flame detection industry. Due to the costs associated with unnecessary process shutdown, this can help to deliver considerable efficiencies over whole product life.
Ongoing costs can be further reduced, when compared to other principles of fire detection like heat detectors, because they offer a faster speed of response – typically 2-5 seconds. Electro-optical devices are area monitors, and this means that they can also be situated further away from the location they monitor, helping to reduce the number of points of detection required, because a single device can monitor a larger area. In fact, the FSX range has a greater range and angle of coverage (Cone of Vision), than most comparable alternatives.

Honeywell Analytics’ range is also optimised to provide intuitive post-event analysis with
user-friendly graphical display functionalities delivered via SnapShot and FirePic™ data capture.
