Pre-study regarding ice mosque at ICEHOTEL in Sweden
Oct 19, 2011 18:14 BSTThere is an on-going pre-study concerning the possibility to build a mosque of ice and snow at ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden. The idea arose during the winter of 2010 and the initiator is Peo Strömberg, CEO of Globile Ventures, Sweden. A decision on building an ice mosque has not yet been made.
ICEHOTEL is an international meeting place that has 80-90 nationalities visiting each year. We’re always open to creating new, interesting projects in snow and ice; a mosque is yet another source of fantastic architectonic inspiration. If a decision to build an ice mosque is made, it is our hope that it will contribute to continuous interesting meetings between people from the world over.
Just like any other church, the ice mosque shall be integrated with our existing environment, nature and with the core values that characterize ICEHOTEL: there shall always be something new to discover at ICEHOTEL, we’ve borrowed our building material from the Torne River that is why the meeting with our buildings and artwork always happens here and now and all senses are present.
No conflict has been identified in the pre-study regarding building an ice mosque and we will make sure that it doesn’t clash with our core values.
We welcome all people to ICEHOTEL. Just like all of our other buildings, a possible ice mosque will not be exclusive or closed to anyone, but open to each and everyone that visits us.
