Croxteth Hall to join in2handheld service offered by imagineearJul 18, 2012 12:41 BST
Croxteth Hall in Liverpool is latest to join imagineear’s in2handheld programme and will soon be offering interactive audio-visual tours to visitors.
imagineear’s in2handheld programme helps heritage sites of all sizes introduce handheld multimedia guides for the first time. Designed by imagineear to be a scalable, flexible and powerful multimedia platform, in2handheld makes use of the mediaPacker handheld device, used at sites as diverse as Arsenal Football Club in London and the Taj Mahal in Agra, India.
The historic house, operated by Liverpool City Council, is an elegant Edwardian country house in which generations of the Molyneux family, the Earls of Sefton, have lived since the sixteenth century. Visitors to Croxteth Hall explore their story along with that of the society figures and royalty who came to stay. The guides will help unlock the stories of its opulently furnished rooms, with paintings hung from every wall and corridor.
Croxteth joins with a diverse range of in2handheld service subscribers – from Bolton Castle, to the Museum of the University of Saint Andrews, to Dulwich Picture Gallery, to Durrell Wildlife Park and The Point Eastleigh. The in2handheld service offers staff and volunteers at heritage sites the opportunity to be trained to create and edit multimedia guides themselves. Using imagineear’s mediaPacker platform members of staff with no technical background whatsoever are able to build, edit and update tours on their own terms – children have even successfully created their own tours for the mediaPacker platform at Devon Museums.
Nick Sherrard, imagineear’s Head of Business Development, commented: "We are delighted to welcome Croxteth Hall and Country Park to the growing number of in2handheld clients – and also to the increasing number of imagineear clients in and around Liverpool. We look forward to helping to provide the stories of this magnificent Hall and its history".
