The Point Eastleigh partners with imagineear to create 'A Feel for Nature'

The Point Eastleigh adopts imagineear's APpro™ technology to give visually impaired visitors A Feel for Nature during the Salisbury International Arts Festival.

Plenty of tours around the world have been adapted to enable visually impaired people safely to access them.  Not many have actually been created by visually impaired people.  The Point Eastleigh's A Feel for Nature does precisely that, using audio guides to connect people better to the natural world around them.

The project is presented as part of the Salisbury International Arts Festival and has been produced by The Point Eastleigh's resident artists, Public Attraction.  Participants in the project have been drawn from Kings Copse Primary School, Toynbee School and people connected to Open Sight charity in Bishopstoke.

The trail will take the form of an audio tour delivered through imagineear's APpro™ system.  The APpro™ is an ideal player for visitors with visual impairments – with its intuitive and tactile design for users.  The simplicity of creating tours for the APpro™ also means the platform lends itself to this kind of collaborative creative process.

A Feel for Nature takes visitors on a journey through Itchen Valley Country Park.  Visitors can pick up their guides, with a map to accompany the tour, at the Visitor Centre.  There are also plaques signposting the tour to embed the experience in the heart of the park.

Nick Sherrard, Head of Business Development for imagineear UK and Ireland, wished the project well: "We welcome this opportunity to support the Point Eastleigh, and are delighted that our APpro™ solution provides such an elegant solution to the specific requirements of the Feel for Nature tour".
