LLA Jobs Fair a huge success

London Luton Airport (LLA) and event partner, Luton Borough Council, played host to a hugely successful jobs fair yesterday. The event drew over 800 people to Venue Central in Luton.

The event brought together 27 employers based in and around the airport that are looking for new staff, ranging from Harrods Aviation and National Express to Bella Italia and Luton based Ryebridge Construction. In total, exhibiting employers offered 295 current vacancies at the event. Attendees were able to meet prospective employers, find out more about the opportunities available and apply for jobs on the spot.

As LLA makes its biggest ever investment to transform the airport and increase capacity, there are an increasing number of employment opportunities for local people. The investment is expected to create 10,500 new jobs on top of the 27,200 jobs LLA already supports. Over 7,000 of these will be located in the Three Counties area.

This year there was a particularly large selection of roles in the retail and hospitality sector as a range of new leisure options open at the airport. This will include an additional 43 shops as well as new restaurant and bar outlets.

Chika Austin, Community Relations Executive at LLA, said: “Following on from last year’s hugely successful event it was great to see such a strong turnout yesterday. The local community is at the heart of everything we do at the airport and it’s important to us that local businesses and residents share in the airport’s success during this exciting period of growth.

“This event was a wonderful opportunity for our local community to get to know some of the many companies based in and around the airport. With almost 300 jobs available across a wide range of sectors, there was hopefully something for everyone. 29 of last year’s attendees are now working at the airport with more expected to start their roles shortly.I hope that we’ll be welcoming even more new faces at the airport after this year’s event.”

About London Luton Airport

London Luton Airport (LLA) is one of the UK’s largest airports and carried 14.5 million passengers in 2016, an increase of 18.5% on 2015. The airport indirectly employs over 9,400 staff and is a key economic driver for the region.

easyJet, Wizz Air, Ryanair, Monarch, Thomson, EL AL, Blue Air, TAROM, SunExpress, Iberia (Air Nostrum), Vueling, TransaviaFly KISS and Israir currently operate from the airport. Thomas Cook Airlines will also begin flights from the airport in May 2017. The airport’s route network serves 133 destinations including services to Europe, Africa, and Asia.

The airport is operated and developed by a consortium of which the majority shareholder is AENA, the world’s largest airport operator, and Ardian, a major European investor.

LLA is currently investing over £110million to transform the airport and increase capacity from 12 million to 18 million passengers per year by 2020. The redevelopment plans will include a complete redesign of the terminal, bringing in new and exciting retail and dining options, and major upgrades to transport links, including better road access to the M1, new car parking facilities, a remodeled bus and coach interchange and improved rail links to Luton Airport Parkway station. In addition, plans for a new £200 million light rail system linking the airport with Luton Airport Parkway station have been announced and are anticipated to be completed by 2020. The project is being delivered by the airport owners, LLAL – a company owned by Luton Borough Council.
